The Pathway

Samantha (“Sam”) Butts is a Kinesiologist and Strength & Conditioning Coach based on the west coast of British Columbia. Nearly a decade after earning her Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, she has built her career helping people move, perform, and live with greater confidence.

Beginning as a Personal Trainer and Kinesiologist, Sam expanded her expertise through certifications in Group Fitness, Indoor Cycling, Kettlebell Training, and, in 2024, Strength & Conditioning. She has always been driven to learn from great coaches, challenge her own assumptions, and seek mentorship beyond her comfort zone. That commitment to lifelong learning has become the foundation of her practice.

After spending over two years coaching athletes at a high-performance facility specializing in youth athletic development, Sam is now hungry to serve her own community of Sooke with a clear purpose: to provide the kind of coaching and long-term athletic development she wishes had been available growing up. Bringing high-quality performance training to a small community feels like a full-circle moment.

The Why

Movement has always been part of Sam’s life—but so has injury.

A broken leg abruptly ended one chapter of her athletic journey, exposing a significant gap between injury rehabilitation and long-term physical development. Years later, a serious motor vehicle accident left her navigating what felt like an endless cycle of rehabilitation, chronic pain, and uncertainty.

Those experiences shaped the way she coaches today.

Working alongside clients facing similar challenges, Sam recognized a common pattern: too many people were being treated as problems to fix rather than people capable of understanding, adapting, and taking ownership of their health. She saw a gap in truly client-centred musculoskeletal care and committed herself to bridging it.

Through continued education and mentorship, Sam has built a practice that moves beyond the traditional “fix me” model. She works with her clients, helping them recognize what they are capable of rather than reinforcing what they cannot do.

Her coaching is grounded in compassion, education, strength, and the belief that resilience can be developed. Rather than creating dependence, her goal is to build self-efficacy—equipping people with the knowledge, confidence, and physical capacity to navigate pain, setbacks, and performance challenges throughout life.

Whether someone is recovering from injury, pursuing athletic performance, or simply striving to move and feel better, Sam believes rehabilitation and training exist on the same continuum. Movement literacy, physical development, and strength are the foundation for living well across every stage of life.

Because strength isn’t just about lifting heavier.

It’s the foundation of everything we do and everything we have the potential to be.

It’s about building a bigger capacity for life.
